My paintings mainly focus on scenes that honor the special luminosity and intrigue created as night falls. With these paintings, I construct places caught between the familiar and separate. In the shifting darkness, shapes and structures warp and expand, shadows lengthen, lines blurs, light takes on an ethereal quality, and the everyday moves into the almost-magical. My work is heavily influenced by cityscapes and architecture, and each painting serves as a reflection of place and time in relation to a memory. This process of capturing moments in layers of oil paint is a way for me to re-experience these memories and emotions evoked by this retrospective practice in color, tone, and temperature. Oil paint lends itself being incredibly nuanced; able to capture the deep darks to bright lights, and all that glows in between.

While the work is deeply autobiographical, the atmospheric scenes enable viewers to imagine and project a narrative all their own into my work.

My studio is located in Syracuse, New York. I am currently setting up a new space, and will welcome studio visits once it’s ready.
